There are several possible ferry routes - either across the Channel with a 20 hour drive through France and northern Spain, the long crossing to northern Spain followed by an easy days drive or the Le Havre crossing overnight. Although the long ferry route seems expensive, the prices of the two routes are relatively similar when comparing the total costs. The disadvantage of the long ferry crossing is the small number of crossings leading to inflexibility and shortage of spaces - book early ! The best route from the French coast is to head for Bordeaux then Biarritz then route N1 via Madrid to the N3 direction Valencia.
The motorways in Spain are now excellent and Ontur is reached easily from the Madrid to Murcia motorway, take Tobarra junction direction Ontur. Or from the Albacete to Alicante/Valencia motorway junction at Almansa for Hellin through Motealegro and Fuente Alamo. The airfield is 2km to the west of Ontur town on the road to Tobarra.
