Ocana - British Overseas Championships

The British Overseas Championships & Senasa Gliding Challenge is a top level International competition open to pilots from all countries. The contest is organised by the European Soaring Club in partnership with Senasa which is Spain's largest aviation company. The rules for the contest are according to the British Gliding Association Competition Handbook. In 2008 we will use a modified handicap system, see local rules for more details.

The contest has been held at Ocana for the last ten years with about 40-50 competitors in one class which is handicapped for scoring purposes. All four contests have enjoyed 9 days of highly competative flying. The task area is the vast plain of Castilla La Mancha and the Sierras de Toledo. This area provides a contrast of convergence and cumulus at 9000ft+ and blue thermal conditions over the plain to 9000+. In 2002 we also had wave on some days.

The airfield has excellent facilities including a hotel and swimming pool.

2008 Dates: The first competition day will be Monday May 26th 2008, the last competition day will be Friday June 6th, 2008. On Sunday May 25th there will be a briefing at 11.00 for those not familiar with Ocana and launching will be available on an ad hoc basis.
